OILDALE, Calif. -- A female student at North High said another female student tried to get her to participate in a sexual act.The parent of the student contacted 23 ABC after she said her daughter was sexually harassed by another student and school officials did very little in response.High school district officials said they were on top of the investigation from the beginning.
The incident was so traumatic that the victim said she wanted to bring pepper spray to school the next day to protect herself. The victim said that another female student came up to her after gym class last Thursday and asked if she had ever participated in a specific sexual act.The victim responded that she was unaware of that act and didn't want to know. Then the female student called over a male student to possibly demonstrate the act upon the victim."I was kind of freaking out when she called the boy over. I told him if he came any closer there would be a fight. Then the boy walked away," said the victim. The victim's mom contacted the school dean asking what was going to be done and wanting action taken."He told me that because of budget cuts it was impossible for them to baby-sit my kids at school. He could not ensure the protection of my kids while they were there. As a mother, I told him, I am responsible to get my kids to school and once they are there, it is their responsibility to educate and protect my children," said the victim's mother. The victim said she doesn't want to go back to that class and wonders why she was singled out.Officials at the Kern High School District said they take these sexual harassment allegations very seriously."The victim could not identify the female suspect. We have spoken to the P.E. teacher about the incident. The teacher took pictures of some possible suspects, but still the victim could not point out the girl who made the comments. We understand school year just started and the victim may not recognize the girl just yet," said John Teves of the Kern County High School District.Officials said once the investigation is complete and those involved are caught, disciplinary action could include suspension or expulsion.
