Gold Fork Hot Springs
Soak away everyday stress in the mineral-rich waters of Gold Fork Hot Springs. This spa offers six pools ranging from cool to hot in a beautiful forested setting along the Gold Fork River in Western Idaho, about 90 miles from Boise. Lodging is available in the nearby towns of Tamarack, Donnelly, McCall and Cascade. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Closed Tuesdays, but open all holidays.

Garden Valley and Southfork Landing
If you love the great outdoors, you can enjoy it year-round in Garden Valley. In the summer you have hunting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and whitewater boating in the nearby Sawtooth Wilderness, 217,000 acres of lush meadows, rivers lakes and jagged granite peaks. In the winter, bundle up for snow tubing, snowboarding, skiing and snowmobiling. Lodging options include camping, cabins, B&Bs, lodges, motels and family resorts.

Idaho City
Get a taste of Idaho's pioneer history in Idaho City, a small mountain town 45 minutes northeast of Boise. Idaho City sprang up when gold was discovered nearby in 1862. It quickly became the biggest town in the Boise Basin. Use this historic town as your base of operations for exploring the gold rush ghost towns of Placerville, Pioneerville and Centerville. The area boast four seasons of outdoor fun for hunters, anglers, hikers, equestrians and snow sport lovers.

Riggins
If you are looking for adventure, nothing beats whitewater rafting, and Riggins, Idaho, is the state's self-proclaimed capital of whitewater. The town is located between the deep gorges of Hell's Canyon to the west and Salmon River Canyon to the east. Outfitters offer everything from half-day trips to overnight and extended trips down the Salmon and Little Salmon rivers. Riggins is also a jumping off place for hiking and pack trips into the "River of No Return" Wilderness and the Seven Devil's Mountains.

Sandpoint
Water skiing, boating, hiking and fishing are some of the activities that bring people to this small town on in Idaho's northern panhandle region. Sandpoint is on the northwestern shore of Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced Pon-da-ray), about 60 miles south of the Canadian border and 75 miles east of Spokane, Wash. The 43-mile-long lake was carved out by a glacier and is one of the deepest in the United States. Skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling are the attractions in winter. Nearby Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort offers 10 lifts, 92 named ski runs and 30 kilometers of cross-country ski trails.
