Staycation: Home Rentals In Pine Mountain Club

POSTED: 5:38 pm PDT July 9, 2009
UPDATED: 12:04 pm PDT July 21, 2009

For more than 30 years, Barbara and Del Archer have lived in this mountain town in southern Kern County and couldn't picture themselves anywhere else.

It's part of what makes Pine Mountain Club one of Kern County's best kept secrets, they say.

"We found people come up here and say, 'Oh my gosh, I've passed by on I-5 and I never knew this was here,'" Barbara Archer says. "They get up here the first time, and they come back."

They run Pine Mountain Rentals, which lists numerous vacation properties in Pine Mountain Club for rent on a nightly or weekly basis.

Whether you're planning a small family getaway or a large reunion, they say there's an affordable way to fill your lodging needs, at rates that are less expensive than well-known mountain communities like Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead.

"They tell us that it's not only closer, but it's a lot less expensive, so that makes us feel good," Del Archer says. "And we have beautiful homes of all sizes."

Staying in a vacation home gives tourists a taste of life in the Kern County mountains, with opportunities for hiking, astronomy, and animal sightings.

In addition to getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city, those who rent a home get access to Pine Mountain's clubhouse and amenities, including a signature nine-hole golf course, tennis courts and equestrian center.

PMC is also well-known for its annual Lilac Festival and other events throughout the year.

The Archers say if you book, book early. Homes around the holidays are usually booked months in advance, but many homes are available for a quick getaway, regardless of the season.

"Fall is beautiful, spring is beautiful, summer is nice and cool." Barbara Archer said. "You can enjoy all the seasons."

Other lodging options in Pine Mountain Club also include a bed & breakfast, and coming this fall, the Pine Mountain Inn will have a highly anticipated grand re-opening.
