Local GM Dealers Embrace Online Showroom
TAFT, Calif. -- You can add new cars to the growing online marketplace.
A monthlong trial effort by General Motors started Tuesday in California, which puts new cars up for sale in cyberspace through eBay Motors.
Dealers are pulling out all the stops to increase car sales, and the partnership with eBay is simply one of those efforts, according to Devinder Singh Bains of Taft Chevrolet.
His dealership, along with Three-Way Chevrolet and Motor City in Bakersfield and Richland Chevrolet in Shafter are all contributing to the online showroom.
"It brings buying a car to your fingertips," Bains said. "It doesn't matter if you're in Taft, if you're in Bakersfield, whatever car you want, you can go straight to the supplier."
The cars are offered at a buy-it-now rate that's several thousand dollars below the suggested retail price, or you can make your own offer.
The program runs until September 8. If successful, it could be introduced in other states. To visit the website, go to http://gm.ebay.com.
