UPDATED: 10:46 am PDT August 12, 2009

On Tuesday around 8 p.m. while conducting the official inmate count, staff at the Taft Correctional Institution discovered that one inmate was missing from the Institution’s Satellite Camp facility.

The Satellite Camp is a minimum-security facility that houses approximately 550 federal inmates. There is no security fence around the facility, which is common for a minimum-security facility within the federal prison system, Dale Patrick of the Taft Correctional Institution said.

Minimum security is the lowest security level in the federal prison system.

Taft Correctional Institution immediately contacted all appropriate law enforcement agencies including the Taft Police Department, Bakersfield Police Department, Kern County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Maricopa Police Department, Federal Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service.

James Gallaway, 37, was sentenced on March 16, in the Northern District of Indiana, to 102 months in federal custody for manufacture of a schedule 1 controlled substance, marijuana and aiding and abetting.

Gallaway arrived at the Taft Correctional Institution Satellite Camp on May 22, as a direct court commitment.

His projected release date was May 2, 2015, via Good Conduct Time Release, Patrick reported.

Gallaway was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 7, 1972.

He is 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighs 260 pounds.

He has brown hair, and brown eyes, and a 4-inch scar on his left arm. He has used the following aliases: James Alan Gallaway and Jimmy Gallaway.

His home address is listed as 8141 Star Trek Drive, Shingletown, CA 96088. Prior to incarceration he was self-employed in building pole barns and home remodeling.

If anyone suspects they have seen this individual or obtains information as to his location, please contact the Taft Correctional Institution at 661-763-2510, or any of the law enforcement agencies previously listed.
