Overnight Search, Rescue Finds 2 In Forest

FRAZIER PARK, Calif. -- Two motorists who were reported stranded were rescued Friday morning by search and rescue teams.Around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report that two off-road motorists had become stranded in the Tecuya Ridge area of the Los Padres National Forest near Frazier Park.The KCSO said that two motorists, David Burr and Luke Kalarickal, both 34, had been driving off road and the vehicle they were operating become stranded and disabled.
Burr and Kalarickal then walked to an area where they were able to make cell phone contact with the California Highway Patrol.The CHP notified the sheriff’s office communications center, and the com center was able to make cell phone contact with Burr.Burr gave officers a description of the area they were stranded, and also reported that neither he or Kalarickal were equipped with either cold weather gear or food, however they did have water, the KCSO reported.Burr indicated they would return to the vehicle because of the cold weather conditions to await assistance, the KCSO reported.Frazier Park Search and Rescue began an immediate search operation, however were unable to reach the area due to the terrain. The KCSO Search and Rescue Unit responded and began search operations.Due to cloudy conditions, the Air Support Unit was unable to respond to assist with the search, the KCSO said.Search and rescue volunteers continued searching for the two men throughout the night, however were unable to locate them.Around 8:30 a.m. Friday, the two were located at their vehicle by Search and Rescue members. The two men were reported in good condition, and are being transported out of the area, the KCSO said.
