There has been one arrest in connection with the body builder who was killed after police said he was beaten in front of his home Sunday morning.

Police said that they have arrested Blayne Allen Clifford, 18, Sunday night in connection with the killing of 40-year-old Patrick Matsuda.

Former Body Builder Beaten To Death In Front Of Own Home

Matsuda was beaten to death in front of his own home in the 4300 block of Whitegate Avenue early Sunday morning while apparently trying to quiet down a party.

Police said Matsuda became involved in an argument with a man outside the home and struck him in the face.

A woman who was standing outside the home intervened at which point the man ran into the home and called for assistance, police said.

Police said Matsuda assaulted the woman.

Several party goers, including Clifford, ran from the house toward Matsuda and surrounded him as he retreated to his own driveway.

Police said that Matsuda obtained a bat from inside his garage, at which point Clifford ran back to his house and obtained two bats.

Matsuda chased the party goers back across the street striking the same girl on the arm with his bat, Sgt. Mary DeGeare with the Bakersfield Police Department said.

Clifford exited the house and gave one of the bats to an unidentified man who struck Matsuda in the head with it, DeGeare said.

DeGeare said Matsuda fell and Clifford struck Matsuda several times while he lay on the ground.

Police said additional people also joined in and hit and kicked Matsuda as he lay on the ground.

When it was apparent Matsuda was no longer fighting back, the entire group left, prior to police arrival, DeGeare said.

Matsuda was transported to KMC where he died. Autopsy revealed that Matsudo was also stabbed.

Investigators are still trying to identify the other man who was armed with the bat.

Police have described him as white or Hispanic. He is said to be in his early 20s and is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He is said to have short dark hair and may possibly have a goatee.

Police said the man has tattoos on his arms and on the lower part of the back of his neck.

Investigation into the actions of other party goers involved in the assault and slaying continues.
