TAFT, Calif. -- A man accused in the fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a 14-year-old girl last year has taken a plea deal.Glenn Russell, 46, plead no contest to a felony count of hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury for the accident that killed Michelle Ramirez, a 14-year-old freshman at Taft Union High School.Related

The crash happened the night of November 10, 2009 at Kern and 2nd streets in Taft, when Russell's white Jeep hit Ramirez as she was crossing the street, Taft police said.Russell was found less than a mile away from the scene of the accident the next day, trying to remove the visible damage from the crash from his vehicle, police said.A felony gross vehicular manslaughter charge and a misdemeanor count of concealing evidence were dropped as a result of the plea deal.Russell's sentencing is scheduled for April 14 in Bakersfield.
