63 Percent Containment Of Lebec Fire
Firefighters Working To Contain Fire

LEBEC, Calif. -- Fire crews worked vigorously through the night to contain what is now known as the Post Fire, which broke out near the post office in Lebec on Tuesday afternoon.The fire has been contained to 60 percent, KCFD officials reported. The fire has burned 2,000 acres and approximately 40 to 50 homes are at immediate risk.Around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the Kern County Fire Department received calls regarding a fire near the post office on Lebec Road.
Lebec, a town of about 1,285, according to the most recent United States Census Survey, is located approximately 45 miles south of Bakersfield.

Mandatory evacuations had been in place for residents living in the areas of Chimney Canyon, O'Neill Canyon and Los Padres Estates on Lebec Oaks Road, but those were lifted around 8:30 Tuesday night.The evacuation center set up at Frazier Mountain High School was closed late Tuesday. As a precaution, the high school, as well as Frazier Park School and El Tejon Middle School are closed Wednesday.Approximately 500 firefighters from the KCFD, the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, LA County Fire Department and Cal Fire were aggressively fighting the fire with the assistance from helicopters and other aircraft.Water and fire retardant were applied from KCFD helicopter 408, with assistance with DC-10 and other air resources. Currently 5 helicopters and 5 airplanes are assisting with the fire.ABC23 news will update this story.
