Chile Cheeseburgers Anyone?

New Mexico's Restaurants Serve Southwestern, Mexican, BBQ

New Mexico offers authentic Mexican and Southwestern cuisine. But there are also hidden gems that have delicious chile cheeseburgers and the best barbecue around.

Bobcat Bite in Santa Fe is a tiny restaurant that offers delicious green chile cheeseburgers. The family dining spot may not have a lot of seating, but it has generous portion sizes. The former trade post and gun shop got its name decades ago when bobcats would roam to the back door for the restaurant's leftovers.

Cafe Pasqual's, in a historic pueblo-style adobe one block southwest of the plaza downtown seats only 50, but the kitchen turns out massive amounts of fresh bread, chile sauces and fresh salsa for authentic Mexican food.

County Line BBQ in Albuquerque is said to have some of the best barbecue around. An oak wood fire is preferred to smoke the brisket and ribs at this casual restaurant. Order up a few sides of baked beans, cole slaw and homemade bread and the meal is complete. Don’t forget to leave room for the bread pudding.

The unique Southern New Mexico recipes at Si Señor in Las Cruces are what make this restaurant notable. The family-owned restaurant brings authentic Mexican food to New Mexico. They use high-quality, long-stem Hatch Chile in many of their dishes. They make their own tortillas and tamales and have one-of-a-kind chips and salsa.

La Plazuela Restaurant at La Fonda in Artesia is a beautiful courtyard restaurant featuring gourmet Latin cuisine and Santa Fe favorites. La Plazuela’s ingredients are locally grown and the wine list will quench anyone’s thirst. Reservations are suggested.

The green chile stew at The Shed in Santa Fe is said to be outstanding. The family-owned restaurant is now operated by the third generation and still flourishing. All of the dishes are served with blue corn tortillas and their chile is processed daily to capture the flavor and freshness. The quaint hacienda prides itself on "creative cooking." The restaurant sells its products complete with the recipes to their own dishes so families can enjoy their Shed favorites at home.
