Back To School Shopping: Six Out Of Ten Families Shop Discount

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Time is running out for back-to-school shopping, and according to a new survey, six out of 10 families who have shopping left to do will do it at a discount store.Shannon Ezzell has already racked up at least $1,000 buying clothes and school supplies for her three daughters.Ezzell said she is trying her best to save money by shopping at discount stores like Ross Dress For Less in the Southwest.
"I just hop from store to store, sales to sales, sometimes I will get one kid something it all depends on who's with me and what I find," said Ezzell.Families are spending 77 percent less this year than they did last year on back-to-school shopping, according the the National Retail Federation. The retail trade group also said more families are clipping coupons, looking at sale ads and shopping at discount stores.Shopping discount can save you hundreds of dollars. For basic school supplies, the 99 cent Only Stores has everything you would need."We carry everything from backpacks to produce to everything that you need for back to school we have it here," said Ursula Arias, general manager of the 99 cent Only Stores.If you haven't started your back-to-school shopping yet, you are not alone. The average American family had completed only 41.6 percent of their back-to-school shopping as of Aug. 11.
