BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Police Department officer who shot a man in the neck after the man alledgedly tried to run him over has been cleared and has returned to active duty.On Oct. 7, Officer Nathan Anderberg pulled over a Chevy Tahoe, the BPD said.When Anderberg got off the bike and began to approach the vehicle, Marcos Barraza, 27, accelerated in reverse toward him, police told ABC23.
Previous Story Officer Shoots Man That Accelerated Toward Him Anderberg ran to the sidewalk while telling Barraza to stop. When he didn't, Anderberg fired one shot that hit Barraza in the neck.Barraza immediately told Anderberg that he had been shot and surrendered.The BPD told ABC23 that the Tahoe was stolen.Anderberg, a nine-year veteran of the department, was not injured.The review board concluded that the shot fired by Anderberg at Barraza was within department policy and state and federal guidelines.The review board consisted of Assistant Chief Bryan Lynn, Assistant Chief Lyle Martin, Capt. Kevin Stokes, Capt. Robert Bivens, Capt. Greg Williamson and Capt. Joe Bianco. Police Chief Bill Rector has reviewed the investigation and concurred with the review board’s findings.
