BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Just three days after San Joaquin Bank was shut down by federal regulators, it reopened on Monday as branches of Citizens Business Bank.Related San Joaquin Bank Shut Down by Regulators "I was in here 3 p.m. on Friday and it was still San Joaquin, and I came to work this morning and what a surprise," said longtime customer Don Mason.
Friday's shut down of San Joaquin Bank marked the 99th failure this year of a federally insured bank, according to the FDIC.Despite the recent changes, Terre Price of the FDIC, said things remain business as usual."The activity over the weekend doesn't change anything for them. All of their deposit accounts, all their loan accounts are the same, keep making loan payments, keep using the same checks, keep using the same Pin number," said Price.Citizens Business Bank, which is out of Ontario, Calif. will assume all of San Joaquin's $361 million in deposits.The news came as a shock to Chris Maretich, who has been banking with San Joaquin Bank for nearly 20 years."I'm not real happy about everybody being taken over by everybody, but you know as long as the same people are around, it looks good to me," said Maretich.Maretich said he has stayed with San Joaquin Bank over the years because of the friendly staff. As for now, the staff is staying put. But will other customers stay put?"It's all going to depend on their attitude over the next 60 days, and if they keep the present staff," said Mason.
