She may only be 11-years-old, but this southwest Bakersfield girl is already a master in the kitchen.

Her name is Madalynn Claborn, or better known as "Chef Maddie."

From frittatas to fish, this young culinary artist started getting her hands dirty in the kitchen at the young age of 4.

"I just love cooking, when I was a little girl, me and my mom would cook constantly-- make cookies and cakes-- and not just that, we would make salads and all kinds of stuff. It was just so fun," said Maddie.

Now Maddie wants to share her kid-friendly recipes with her peers. She will presenting a hands-on demonstration at the Arts Council Monday.

"You know what mom wants to constantly be cooking for their kids, 'Like mom, I'm hungry,' you know," said Maddie.

"She loves food and she loves to play, I call it play, cause she gets to play with real food and it helps me because I don't have to cook dinner," said Mary Reyna, Maddie's mom.

Like Rachel Ray, Maddie says she likes to experiment with her recipes.

"My memo is never be afraid to have fun with your food, you have to experiment. You never know if you like it until you try it," she said.

As for what inspires this young chef, Maddie says everything around her is an inspiration. But said her mom is definitely somebody she looks up to.

"My mom, she is a total inspiration to me, she is the one who taught me about spices and everything, it's just so great," said Maddie.

Maddie is working on her first cookbook, she is hoping it will be out in time for Christmas.

If you would like to see Chef Maddie at work in the kitchen, she will be demonstrating her favorite recipes for children ages 6-12 at the Arts Council of Kern's Younger Gallery located at 1440 Truxtun Ave. suite 105 in the Bank of America building.

It is $10 per child. To reserve a spot you can call the Arts Council of Kern at 661-324-9000.
