More than a thousand people waited in line Friday for CSUB's seasonal flu drive-thru clinic, some people had to be turned away after they ran out of vaccines early.

A long line of cars stretched down Camino Media in both directions. With the nation facing a shortage of seasonal flu vaccines, Shaun Wills didn't mind the wait.

"I took the boys two days ago and they were out. This was offered, so here we go," he said.

CSUB joined forces with the Department of Public Health to distribute over 1,700 vaccines. Even though Friday's event was not a real life emergency, Kathy Miller from CSUB said they treated it as such.

"This was a two-fold event today, the first obviously being giving the seasonal flu shot to a whole bunch of people, but it also helps us prepare should the community ever need provide a lot of medication, do a mass vaccination we're now all ready both on the emergency preparation side and the community as the drive-thru," she said.

It was also a chance for 130 CSUB nursing students to get hands-on experience.

"We're in the hospitals once a week giving all kinds of vaccines and medicines too, but to be able to take part in such a large community event and help them, it has been such a tremendous experience," said student Sylvia Gonzalez.

But like past flu clinics, more people showed up than what they had supplies for. The clinic was forced to close down four hours early.
