UPDATED: 3:45 pm PST December 2, 2009

A man who called 911 to report that his roommate was dead in their mobile home on the 3500 block of Stine Road has been arrested.

On Wednesday around 8:44 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department responded to reports of a dead woman.

When officers arrived, they said that Russell Hayne Jr., 59, was seen waiting in front of a mobile home with blood evidence on his hands and body.

Officers immediately detained Hayne after, they said, he called 911 reporting that his roommate was dead in her southwest Bakersfield home.

Neighbors told ABC23 that his roommate was his girlfriend, but police have not confirmed that information.

Police said that Darlene Michelle McDaniel, 42, was found with knife wounds to the upper portion of her body.

Investigation revealed that Hayne stabbed the woman to death prior to placing the 911 call.

Hayne was arrested on charges of first-degree murder.

Hayne's bail has been set at $1 million.
