Police said that a Kern County firefighter was driving under the influence and allegedly ran a red light, causing a crash that killed one.

The phone pole was left dangling in the air, held up by what PG&E called a live wire.

The Bakersfield Police Department said a gray Hyundai and red Ford pickup truck were the two vehicles involved in the accident.

Firefighter Mitchell Green was driving the pickup truck and hit the turning Hyundai, according to the BPD.

Witnesses told ABC23 that Green had run a red light and slammed into the Hyundai.

Green was pulled out of the truck and taken to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Michaela Maxwell, 15, who was the driver of the Hyundai was taken to Kern Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.

Michaela is a sophmore at Independence High School.

Her mother, Michelle Marie Maxwell, 41, died at the scene.
