CSUB To Host Separation Of Church, State Presentation

POSTED: 1:16 pm PST February 16, 2010

California State University, Bakersfield will host a discussion regarding the separation of church and state on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 8 a.m. in Science III, room 108.

Jack Hernandez, a retired Bakersfield College philosophy professor and director of the Levan Center for Humanities, will present his perspective on the topic as vice president of the Kern County chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. Founded in 1947, the organization advocates that religious freedom for all Americans can be achieved by keeping faith and government separate.

Tim Vivian, CSUB religious studies professor, hopes his students and others in attendance will gain a wider perspective on an issue that divides many. "I hope the community will take advantage of this opportunity to explore separation of church and state," Vivian said.

Admission is free and open to the public. A daily parking permit is available for $2 at campus entrances.
