Suspicious Device Detonated; Man Sought For Questioning
Device Leads To Bomb Squad Callout Saturday Night

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Police Department is still looking for a man wanted for questioning after a device that looked like a pipe bomb was reported and detonated Saturday afternoon in Southwest Bakersfield.The BPD was called around 3 p.m. Saturday after it was reported that Brooks Thompson, 24, had made or was making an explosive device in a home in the 9900 block of Vertrice Avenue.The bomb squad detonated the device several hours later; it did not contain any explosive material.
No other devices were found in the home, but 25 nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution because it was believed to be an explosive device.That evacuation lasted for about four hours before the device was rendered safe around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.Thompson is wanted for questioning.
