56 Citations Issued During Checkpoint

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- On Friday the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail conducted a “Click It or Ticket It” enforcement event, where additional officers were fielded to specifically target motorists in violation of seatbelt and child safety laws, focusing their enforcement efforts in central and southwest Bakersfield between the hours of 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.As a result of this enforcement event, 81 motorists were stopped and contacted by officers, 28 of those motorists received citations, 28 other motorists received citations for miscellaneous vehicle code violations, including using their cellular telephones while driving, 1 vehicle was impounded and 1 driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant for being an unlicensed driver.The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic enforcement Detail will conduct these “Click it or Ticket It ” enforcement events throughout this coming year.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected drunk driver.
