BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The killing of a young mother has left one Southwest Bakersfield neighborhood on high alert.Amber Kelch, 32, was found shot in the head Tuesday morning, according to police. With no arrests made, one of Kelch's neighbors said she is living in fear.
"I will not open this door until I know who's on the other side from now on. You know you just can't trust anybody," said Kelch's neighbor. It was Kelch's 16-year-old son who made the gruesome discovery, said Sgt. Mary DeGeare of the Bakersfield Police Department."Her son woke up and wondered why she hadn't awaken him for school. When he went in and found her in the master bedroom, she was obviously deceased with some trauma," said DeGeare. But instead of calling for help, police said the boy called Kelch's common law husband who was working out of town. He then called police, said DeGeare.Neighbors told ABC 23 that the boy told them he had let two men he didn't know into the home on Monday night. Police, however would not confirm if that statement is true or not.Until an arrest is made in this case, Campus Park resident Deanne Peterson said she will remain feeling uneasy."It makes me feel really nervous, not quite secure," said Peterson. "I'm a very trusting person and always very secure where I live. I keep my windows open all the time but haven't opened them up yet today. It makes me a little nervous."
