Fake Nursing School Scams Local Woman Out Of Thousands

Los Angeles School Ordered To Shut Down For Pretending To Offer Accredited Program

Southwest Bakersfield resident Faith Tubi had dreams of becoming a nurse. She says those dreams have turned into a nightmare.

For close to two years, Tubi said she had been traveling from Bakersfield to Los Angeles a few times a week to attend RN Learning Center.

For $20,000, Tubi said the owner, Junelou Enterina, told students they could earn their bachelor's of science degree in nursing in just 18 months.

"What Mr. Enterina said to perspective students that this was a more relaxed form of getting to be a nurse," said Gloria Barrios, Supervising Deputy Attorney General in Los Angeles. "These courses were not as difficult as in regular schools. It was also cheaper to go to his school and that you can go to the Philippines and many of these were Filipino students so it made them feel more comfortable."

When it came time to take the registered nurse licensing examination, Tubi said she was told she was not qualified to take it because RN Learning Center is not an accredited school.

  • The attorney general's office stated in a complaint that the RN Learning Center never applied to the Nursing Board to obtain accreditation as a school of nursing.

"The most hurtful is putting my children through that. I borrowed money from their dad, I borrowed money from their personal account just to complete the program and then to find out all of had been taken away and I have nothing," said Tubi.

The Attorney General's Office has reached a settlement with Enterina to reimburse as many as 300 students.

"We are right now looking over all his financial records. We are looking over any assets that either he or his corporation owns. He cannot transfer any of that as of this point so we believe that we are going to get the very least $500,000," said Barrios.

Tubi said because nursing school is so expensive she doesn't know if she will be able to start over again.

"I have a strong belief that there is a God and just hope God will be the one to resolve this," she said.
