BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Kern County Public Health Department said that a local restaurant was temporarily closed due to a salmonella outbreak.After investigating reports of illness, Kim Rodriguez with the Public Health Department said that they temporarily closed Don Perico Restaurant at 4701 White Lane due to to four salmonella infections.

Although the investigation is continuing, there is no evidence that this outbreak is associated with the nation wide recall of contaminated eggs.Health officials said the restaurant will remain closed until the investigation is complete and health officials are confident that this facility is able to safely serve food, Rodriguez said in a release.Salmonella infection can be a serious health threat, especially for those who have a compromised immune system. Symptoms normally develop 12 to 72 hours after exposure and may include diarrhea, fever, vomiting and abdominal cramps.If you are experiencing symptoms, you should contact your health care provider.
