Ramirez, Dodgers Head To Milwaukee

(Sports Network) - Manny Ramirez hasn't missed a beat since returning from his 50-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs and will lead the Los Angeles Dodgers into Milwaukee's Miller Park tonight for the opener of a three-game series against the Brewers.

Ramirez returned from his suspension on July 3, when the NL West-leading Dodgers kicked off a nine-game road trip against the Padres, Mets and Brewers. He is batting .333 with two homers and seven RBI and has helped the Dodgers to a 4-2 mark on the road swing. LA took two of three meetings from the Mets and is coming off Thursday's 11-2 drubbing of New York thanks to Ramirez, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and a pair of walks.

"I am feeling better. Everybody swung the bats great and we took advantage of that," Ramirez said after the game.

Orlando Hudson drove in three runs, while Russell Martin and Juan Castro both finished with two RBI for the Dodgers, who are seven games ahead of second- place San Francisco in the division and have won five of the last seven games. Matt Kemp chipped in three hits and drove in a run in the 17-hit attack.

Dodgers starter Randy Wolf lasted 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks to win his first game since May 28 at the Chicago Cubs, a span of seven starts without a victory.

Chad Billingsley hopes to have the same success when he toes the rubber for Los Angeles this evening. He is currently caught in a funk and is just 0-1 with a 4.55 earned run average over his last four starts. The young ace has allowed three or more runs in five of his last six starts and is coming off a no-decision the previous time out in a 7-6 win at San Diego on July 5.

Billingsley was reached for three runs and four hits with five K's and no walks through a season-high eight innings against the Padres. He remained at 9-4 this season and owns a 3.14 ERA in 18 trips to the rubber. Billingsley, who is 3-1 in nine road starts in 2009, has never faced Milwaukee.

The Brewers are lucky to be just two games behind St. Louis for the NL Central lead with six losses over their last eight games. They just dropped two of three matchups with the Cardinals at Miller Park, including Thursday's 5-1 loss that spoiled the return of starter Manny Parra. Parra was struggling and shook off some rust in the minor leagues before returning last night to throw seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball. He also struck out seven and walked one batter, but could not outduel Cards pitcher Joel Pineiro, who went the distance for the three-hit shutout.

Carlos Villanueva allowed two runs, Mitch Stetter permitted one and Todd Coffey surrendered a pair of runs in succession to blow the lead. Villanueva was saddled with the loss during the deciding five-run eighth inning.

"The bottom line is it's my job to protect that lead there, and I didn't do my job. I feel bad for Manny because he did an outstanding job," Villanueva said on the team's site. "I haven't talked to him yet, but I'll let things settle down a little bit and I'll talk to him tomorrow. He knows how it is. He knows how the game goes. I'm really happy for him, to come back here and do as well as he did today."

Mike Cameron knocked in the only run and Prince Fielder recorded two hits, including a double, for Milwaukee, which is also three games off the lead in the National League Wild Card race.

Brewers skipper Ken Macha will send Braden Looper to the mound and the big righty is 7-4 with a 4.78 earned run average in 17 starts this season. He has won two straight starts and is 5-2 over his last seven decisions.

Looper remained unbeaten over his last three starts after besting the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on July 4. In an 11-2 victory over the Cubs, the right- hander held the opposition to a pair of runs and six hits in six innings. The Brewers have scored 25 runs over Looper's last three starts.

The 6-3, 234-pound Looper, who has a 4-1 mark in 10 home starts this season, is 3-3 with a 4.68 ERA in 26 career games (1 start) against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles and Milwaukee are meeting for the first time since the Dodgers won four of six meetings a season ago. The Dodgers are 7-3 over the last 10 matchups between the clubs.
