BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield High School Drillers will be in the first round of high school football state playoffs in Division I, or the CIF Southern State Regional Bowl Game.
BHS (11-2) has never been selected to participate in the bowl games since the system's inception in 2005. BHS had an undefeated season in 2011 and was not selected for the regional bowl game.
BHS will play Mission Hills near San Diego on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The CIF announced Monday that Bakersfield Christian High School will also be in the Regional Bowl Games in Division IV.
BCHS (11-2) was considered a favorite, but the selection announcement was held up by legal action brought against the CIF from Christian High School in El Cajon.
Christian of El Cajon was placed in Division III due to the "competitive balance" rule similar to the one that effects Kern County teams. Christian of El Cajon won the playoffs in the San Diego Section's Division III but is demanding the "competitive balance" rule be lifted for State playoffs, therefor placing them in Division IV.
The decision was placed before a San Diego judge Monday at 9 a.m.
BCHS will face undefeated View Park at Centennial High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.
