BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Merced pitcher Russell Longworth got busy and then some with 12 strikeouts in his team's 3-1 victory over Bakersfield College Thursday afternoon at Gerry Collis Field.
Longworth baffled the Renegades all day long with his calm demeanor and assortment of off-speed pitches.
BC scored its lone run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
In true fashion, Longworh struck out a batter with the tying runs on base to end the game.
The Blue Devils scored two runs in the first two innings and added a third in the fourth when a batter was hit with the bases loaded.
