Blaze continue to have difficulty Thursday night, lose eighth in a row

Tough times continue for the Blaze

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Blaze starter Carlos Contreras didn't pitch badly but his throwing error on a pickoff attempt in the sixth inning led to a four-run San Jose inning as the Blaze lost, 6-2, to the Giants Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Contreras went five innings, gave up five hits, five earned runs and struck out six.

San Jose led only 2-0 in the fourth but Contreras gave up four runs in the inning, capped off by catcher Jeff Arnold's two-run homer to left field giving the Giants a 5-0 advantage.

The Blaze lost for the eighth time in a row and now host Modesto for four games beginning Friday night at 7:30 at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
