Blaze get down early, can't come back in defeat to Modesto

Blaze comeback falls short in loss to Modesto

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Blaze trailed 5-0 after three innings and couldn't recover against Modesto in the team's 7-3 loss to the Nuts Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Blaze starter Robert Stephenson was knocked around for four earned runs on five hits in just two and a third innings.

Stevenson was taken to task right from the start when Modesto's Tyler Massey hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Jared Simon hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Nuts an insurmountable 5-0 lead.

The Blaze trailed 6-1 in the fourth and got a RBI single from Danny Vicioso to make it 6-2 Modesto.

Modesto's lead was cut in half at 6-3 in the 5th when Stevel Selsly's RBI basehit drove Juan Silva home, but that was as close as Ken Griffey's squad could get.

The same two teams meet in the second game of this series Tuesday night in a 7:30 start at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
