BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield Blaze co-owners Gene Voiland and Chad Hathaway announced Thursday that the new stadium plan for the team won't be completed in time to open for the 2014 season as originally planned.
Voiland and Hathaway said the new Blaze stadium is now on tap to open in April 2015.
Both owners said the current time frame wasn't long enough to complete the stadium for the start of the 2014 season and no one variable was to blame for the stadium not being completed for the beginning of next season.
Originally, the team announced in November 2012 that groundbreaking for the new stadium to replace Sam Lynn Ballpark was scheduled to begin this past February.
However, the groundbreaking never took flight and last month Voiland told 23ABC Sports that he was still hoping to begin construction on the new park for next season. However, that failed to come to fruition.
