BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State baseball team outhit 23rd-ranked UC Irvine, 12-6, but still lost to the Anteaters, 5-4, in 10 innings Tuesday night at Hardt Field.
Irvine took a 4-1 lead on CSUB before the Roadrunners began chipping away at their deficit.
In the sixth, Oscar Sanay's RBI triple drove Tyler Shyrock in to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Jordie Hein scored on a passed ball in the seventh and CSUB trailed only 4-3. However, what could've been an even bigger inning was cut short when Garrett Pierce struck out with the bases loaded to end the seventh.
Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, Hein would score on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Younger to tie the game at four and go to extra innings.
In the 10th, Irvine's Jerry McClanahan got an infield single which scored Connor Spencer for a 5-4 Anteaters lead.
CSUB had one final chance to score in the bottom half of the inning but Pierce struck out swinging with the potential tying and winning runs on base.
