BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The South High boys basketball squad was undermanned and emotionally spent prior to the team's 69-17 defeat to Independence at Independence High in a Central Section Division III semifinal game Thursday night.

Two of South's key players, Josh Jackson and Ryan Reagor, were suspended for the game after they were involved in a physical altercation with each other earlier this week.

The suspensions took the life out of the South Sequoia League champs as they were scored on early and often in the contest.

Independence won their 26th game in a row and move on to face second-seeded Tulare-Mission Oak at 4pm Saturday at Selland Arena in Fresno.
