Garces boys head basketball coach Gino Lacava officially leaving his post

Lacava moving on, will be Garces assistant

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Garces boys head basketball coach Gino Lacava stepped down from his position on Sunday after a hugely successful run at the school.

Lacava's 20-year run as the team's head coach included 13 Central Section title-game appearances, including winning 10 titles, a section record.  He also ranks fifth in section wins with 428.

Among his top players were Stefon Carter, a three-time California Player of the Year, who went on to become the all-time leading scorer in Cal State history and Robert Swift, the 12th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.

Assistant Matt Robles will become the new head coach while Lacava will stay with the program in an assistant coach capacity.
