Highland girls sluggish, can't get untracked and are eliminated in CIF state playoffs

Highland loses to Cabrillo, sees season end

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Highland Scots girls soccer team had high hopes this season.

After winning a third consecutive area title, they felt good about their chances to win a state crown.

However, Lompoc Cabrillo killed those dreams with a 1-0 shutout of the Scots in the first round of a SoCal state regional Monday afternoon at Highland High School.

Highland came close on several occasions in the first half, including Evangeline Gomez-Vivanco being turned away at point blank range by a magnificent save by Cabrillo.

Cabrillo scored the game's only goal with 16 minutes remaining when Yessica Bobo chased down a free kick and her header beat Scots goalie Rebecca Vega.
