Football is finally back! Derek Carr and the Raiders are in the middle of their preseason. High school football scrimmages kicked off last night with the season set to go next Friday. And for the second straight year in Bakersfield, a women's football team.

"It's an adrenaline rush," said Angelina Garcia who played for the Bakersfield Bombers last season. "There's nothing that can explain it really. Just being out in the field and making these lifelong friends, they just become friends."

Last year it was the Bombers playing in the Independent Women's Football League. This year the Kern County Crusaders will be the newest team in town and will play in the Women's Football Alliance.

Tryouts don't start until September 17th at Emerald Cove Park but Saturday morning a number of women were training for the upcoming season. "We're trying to give them the opportunity to condition and get in shape and be prepared for (tryouts)," said Zach Richardson, team owner of the Crusaders.

Conditioning will continue Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:30PM at Yokuts Park. For more information you can contact the Crusaders at kerncrusaders@gmail.com or on Facebook.
