In the Southwest Yosemite League, players and coaches say that every volleyball match is a battle. In such competition, you need dual threat athletes to win.

Frontier's Penelope Zepeda is the definition of that player. "Hitting the ball and attacking is probably one of my favorite things to do," Zepeda said.

Her stat line is a reflection of that attitude. In Tuesday's win over Stockdale she tallied 17 kills and 17 digs. But it's the way that she's getting it done that's impressing her coach the most.

Steven Bentley has led the Titans since the school opened in 2006 and said of Zepeda, "She doesn't have highs and lows. She's very even keel across the board.

Coach Bentley says that calmness was seen in Tuesday's win. When the team was trailing 21-12, Zepeda was there to rally her team and lead the Titans to victory. "It just doesn't happen that often," said Bentley. "To be down that many points and to come back."

It was a rare comeback, but it's a feeling that Zepeda chases after every kill. "I just like the adrenaline of being able to get a kill and just that feeling of 'Yes! I just hit that ball," she said.

The win improved the Titans to 2-1 in league play, already much better than the 1-5 clip they put up last week, and it's a record Zepeda hopes to continue in Frontier's chase for a league title.
