Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan high on Phillip Thomas skills

Phillip Thomas may have shot at stating

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - According to csnwashington.com, former Fresno State safety Phillip Thomas may have a shot at the starting job in the Washington Redskins defensive backfield when the team opens play next season.

The former Bakersfield High standout was taken in the 4th round last Saturday, the 119th overall pick, by the Redskins.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan says that he likes Thomas for his ball-hawking skills, willingness to deliver hits and mental acumen.

Thomas also had the advantage of playing safety in a 3-4 defensive scheme, similar to what the Redskins employ in their defensive attack.
