BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Jeff McKenzie threw a complete-game four hitter and third baseman Mylz Jones extended his hitting streak to 16 games as CSUB defeated New Mexico State, 4-0, in a WAC contest Thursday night at Hardt Field.
McKenzie threw 147 pitches on his way to his sixth victory on the season as the team rebounded from a 5-4, 10-inning loss to 21st-ranked UC Irvine at home Tuesday night.
The game was scoreless until the sixth, when the Roadrunners scored three runs off the strength of an RBI triple from Tyler Shyrock, an RBI bunt single on a squeeze from Jones and a balk.
The Roadrunners final run came on a sacrifice fly from Cael Brockmeyer in the eight inning.
With the win, CSUB improved to 18-7 overall and 3-1 in WAC play. New Mexico State fell to 14-13, 1-3.
The two teams meet again in the second game of the three game series Friday night at 6pm at Hardt Field.
