South's Wren passes, remembered as a leader

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - South High head football coach John Wren passed away at his Bakersfield home in his sleep, according to John Teves, the public information officer for Kern High School District, either Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Wren had been the Rebels head football coach for the past seven years and was 20-45 during that time with four playoff appearances, including a second place finish in the South Yosemite League in 2012.

He was a 1987 graduate of South as well and in addition to his coaching duties, taught English at the school.
