BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Tehachapi baseball hit the road in its Division III section quarterfinal against rival Garces and picked up a 4-3 win over the top-seeded Rams in a huge upset.
Tehachapi's Tyler Heubner scored the winning run in the 7th to break a 3-3 tie and push the Warriors into hosting one of next week's area semifinal games.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the first inning when Sagun Gainey took third on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error by Garces catcher Jake Sweaney.
They increased the lead to 2-0 from a Shane Panek RBI single.
However, the Rams tied things up on the bottom half of the inning when Vincent Hudiburg doubled down the left-field line to drive in two runs.
Each team scored a run in their half of the third to forge a 3-3 tie until Tehachapi pushed across the eventual winning run in the 7th.
