SAN DIEGO - A lawsuit brought against former San Diego Chargers nose tackle Cam Thomas by his ex-girlfriend claims he assaulted and abused her over a period of several months and eventually gave her herpes.
The lawsuit, which was filed in San Diego County Superior Court on May 30 and obtained by 10News this week, also alleges Thomas tried to shove his girlfriend out of a moving car on Interstate 15.
Thomas and the plaintiff, identified as Adrienne E., dated on and off between December 2009 and September 2011, the lawsuit states. Thomas was drafted by the Chargers in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and the two reportedly lived together sporadically after he joined the NFL, sharing a residence in San Diego.
The lawsuit outlines a long period of alleged abuse by the 27-year-old professional football player, who now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers after spending four seasons in San Diego. Here is a look at the claims:
The lawsuit claims Thomas and Adrienne E. had unprotected sex multiple times while dating and that when Adrienne E. asked Thomas about bruises and sores on his genitalia region, he allegedly told her they stemmed from the “girdle he wears in practices and during workouts."
In October 2010, Adrienne E. allegedly discovered information about “other women and gay porn sites” on the computer at their San Diego residence. She claims she confronted him about what she found while they were in a car on a drive home after practice. She said Thomas was behind the wheel, and when they got on Interstate 15, he sped up “put his hands on the plaintiff’s face and said ‘we both have to die one day."
Adrienne E. said Thomas then “slammed her head against the passenger side window with his right hand… reached across her, unbuckled her seat belt and opened the passenger door. With her door opened and the seatbelt off, (Thomas) tried to push her out the door of the speeding vehicle on Interstate 15.”
After that incident, Adrienne E. said she left San Diego and took a flight back to the East Coast, the suit states. However, she claims that Thomas contacted her several times, apologized and begged her to return, which she did.
However, their issues continued. In March 2011, the lawsuit reads. Adrienne E. claims Thomas used a “hot flat iron on her hair” during an argument and then “placed both hands around her neck and choked her until she passed out.” She said the two broke up and got back together again.
One night in September 2011 Adrienne E. allegedly walked in on another woman alone with Thomas in their home. The suit states Thomas dragged Adrienne E. out of the house and that was when the relationship ended for good.
In February 2012 during a Pap smear and STD screening, Adrienne E. said she discovered she had contracted genital herpes, the suit states.
The lawsuit seeks damages for sexual battery, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, fraud through intentional concealment and negligence.
Thomas is dismissing the woman's claims, according to a report by TMZ Sports.
