Street food vendors call him "El Diablo Blanco." In English, he's "The White Devil." That's because he tickets vendors without a permit and confiscates their food. He's Forrest Harrison, one of Kern County's health inspectors. He may be a villain to some, but he's a protector of health to the public, targeting unpermitted street food vendors who often prepare their food in filthy conditions that can make you sick and even kill you. "It's a serious problem and a serious health hazard," said Harrison.

Many communities have separate trash bins for trash and recycling, but that’s not the case in much of eastern Kern county. Instead, it all goes to the same place where sanitation workers spend their days sorting and separating the recyclables from the trash.
It is 9 a.m. and Steve Suthers just got to Body Exchange Sport Club in southwest Bakersfield. This is where Suthers juggles his own intense training sessions as a bodybuilder with working full-time so he could pay his bills.
