LOS ANGELES -
The Los Angeles Fire Department says one man has died and the other has been rescued safely after a construction trench collapsed in Pacific Palisades.
Department spokesman Erik Scott says firefighters were able to pull the first construction worker from the trench shortly after the Thursday afternoon collapse and he was flown to a hospital in serious condition.
Firefighters then focused on the second man, who was trapped and unconscious, but he died before rescuers could free him.
Scott says the incident is now a body recovery effort that is expected to take six to eight hours.
