Ice caves and volcano hikes, lunch with llamas and UFO experiences are all hidden gems in New Mexico, the "land of enchantment."

There are more than four miles of the San Juan River that make for great fishing and fly fishing. The river is below the Navajo Dam and holds more than 80,000 trout. The average trout is about 17 inches long. Quiet, beautiful spots can be found to take in the views and catch some fish.

At the Ice Caves and Bandera Volcano in Grants, visitors can hike to the rim of a 800-foot-deep volcano that last erupted about 10,000 years ago. Or explore a cave that’s an icy 17-mile lava tube where it’s always below freezing. It’s said the ice on the floor is more than 20 feet thick and dates back to 1100 BC. This “land of fire and ice” is located on the Continental Divide.

Something happened in July 1947 in Roswell and the Roswell UFO Museum tries to explain it. It is said to be the most comprehensive UFO museum and research center in the world. The museum gives visitors an extensive overview of the "Roswell Incident" as it has been known to be called, the alleged government coverup and the UFO phenomenon.

The Lightning Field in Corrales in western New Mexico is a work of land art in a remote high desert area. It is comprised of 400 stainless steel poles installed in the ground. The poles are spaced 220 feet apart and it is a sculpture that is meant to be walked through and viewed. Lightning does not have to take place to enjoy the full experience of the art. Sunrise and sunset are also good times to view it.
