BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Highway 178 has reopened to traffic after the mouth of the Kern Canyon was closed due to an emergency rescue Thursday morning.
Kern County firefighters spent two hours rescuing a woman who was stranded by the Kern River.
Fire crews said the 48-year-old woman had gone hiking with two other men at sundown, Wednesday. Although the two men were able to get back to safety the woman was not.
Firefighters were then called to ensue a rescue just after 4 a.m.
The woman did not sustain any injuries, but was taken to the hospital on precaution.
