BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Public health officials confirmed there have been six flu-related deaths in Kern County this flu season.
The Kern County Department of Public Health Services said a 46-year-old man, a 49-year-old man, and a 54-year-old woman died Friday with the flu.
A 43-year-old woman died Saturday.
A 30-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man died in early January from flu-related illnesses.
As of Thursday, only one of the 41 people hospitalized with the flu as received the flu vaccine.
Public Health Services urges people to still get flu shots. They are available at Public Health Services Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
They said the easiest method to prevent spread of the flu is the 3 Cs: Cover your cough, Clean your hands and Confine illness by staying away from others if you are ill.
Kings, Merced and Tulare counties have a combined five flu-related deaths, according to affiliate ABC30 in Fresno.
