7 dead after flu season sweeps through Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Kern County health officials say we are in the heart of flu season in Kern County.

So far seven people have died in Kern County from the flu.

Forty-nine people have been hospitalized in Kern County. Of those 45, 18 have been discharged but 24 of those people have been put on ventilators.

Health official say so far there have been 14 cases of confirmed H1N1 flu in Kern County.

Public Health Services urges people to still get flu shots. They are available at Public Health Services Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
They said the easiest method to prevent spread of the flu is the 3 Cs: Cover your cough, Clean your hands and Confine illness by staying away from others if you are ill.
Kings, Merced and Tulare counties have a combined five flu-related deaths, according to affiliate ABC30 in Fresno.
