BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A bouncer at a local bar is under arrest, along with four other men, and all are being accused of beating a man in a downtown Bakersfield alley.
Police have charged the suspects with attempted murder and assault on a person with force causing great bodily injury.
All plead not guilty in court Tuesday.
Attorney Daniel Rodriguez told 23ABC surveillance cameras outside of his office captured the incident that happened early Saturday morning.
Rodriguez wouldn't show 23ABC the video, but he did tell us what he saw on the tape.
Rodriguez says the video shows a man being chased by five people down the alley of 20th Street and Eye Street.
He says it shows one of those people hitting the man from behind with a baseball bat. Once on the ground and unconscious, the video shows several people kicking the victim in the head and spitting on him.
The Bakersfield Police Department has confirmed one of the suspects was a bouncer at Sandrini's.
Bakersfield police say it may have started when the victim pulled a knife in a threatening manner somewhere between the Mint bar and Sandrini's.
"On the video they were not defending themselves, they became the aggressors," said Rodriguez.
Police arrested five suspects in connection with the beating including 22-year-old Evan Shine, 29-year-old Ryan Sikola, 21-year-old Chandler Degraff, 23-year-old William Freeman and 28-year-old Mario Reyes who was identified as the bouncer from Sandrini's.
All five have been charged with attempted homicide and conspiracy.
The victim's name has not been released but the Bakersfield Police Department says he is in critical condition at Kern Medical Center.
