No charges filed against teen accused of stabbing man; ruled self-defense

Man released from hospital, being booked into jail

Bakersfield Police Detectives were informed Tuesday that the Kern County District Attorney’s Office will not be filing charges against a 16-year-old accused of stabbing a man.

The man in the incident, 35-year-old Manuel Anthony Hernandez, was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon into the custody of Bakersfield Police Detectives. Hernandez is being interviewed by detectives at the Bakersfield Police Department and will be booked into the Kern County Jail later Wednesday evening for violation of domestic violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm

The reason given is that this incident was a clear case of self-defense or in defense of others.

The stabbing happened early Sunday morning  at a home on Three Rivers Drive in Southwest Bakersfield near Independence High School.

Officials said the teenage girl stabbed the victim during a late night argument.

The female juvenile is still in custody at Juvenile Hall but should be released later today.
