TAFT, Calif. - Ron Bryant, Superintendent of Taft City School District, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday morning.
This is his second DUI related arrest in the last 10 months.
Bryant was arrested at 4:52 Wednesday morning on Enos Lane by California Highway Patrol.
In October of 2013, Bryant plead no contest to a charge of driving while impaired.
A more serious charge of driving above the legal limit of .08 was dismissed.
In a statement released by The Taft City School District Board of Education, Vice President Michael McCormick wrote:
The Taft City School District received today that our Superintendent was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while off duty. We do take conduct of this nature seriously; however, at this time, we do not have information concerning the circumstances surrounding the arrest. Since this is a confidential personnel matter and involves the early stages of the legal process, it would not be appropriate for the Board to make further statements at this time. The District will continue to stay abreast of the developments and will cooperate fully with law enforcement as necessary in any investigation.
Bryant has been put on paid administrative leave and Julie Graves will be the acting superintendent.
