Bakersfield College wins home opener over El Camino

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

Bakersfield College football kicked off its’ home opener against El Camino Saturday night. The Renegades won, 20-15.

 

Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter. The Warriors were the first to break that with a touchdown by sophomore Kishawn Berry. They did miss a field goal, 6-0, Warriors.

 

The Renegades fired back with a touchdown by sophomore Elisha Ortiz. The Renegades took the lead, 7-6.

 

Ortiz did score another touchdown to extend their lead, 13-6 after missing a field goal.

 

Jerry Johnson picked off Warrior quarterback, Aaron Thomas, and he took it to the house, 20-9, Renegades.

 

In the end, B.C. was able to hold on to that lead, 20-15 after another Warrior touchdown in the fourth quarter.

 

Head Coach Jeff Chudy believes that the battle his team faced to hold on is a lesson learned going into their next game.

 

“It was a great way to figure out how to get it done and I’m proud of our guys. We can learn a lot from this game. It’s going to be a good life lesson for us,” said Chudy. “We’re 1-1. We got a one-game winning streak and now we got to build on that. So, I’m happy for our team. The way we responded. Obviously, there is a lot of things we got to clean up to get better.”

 

If you missed all the action tonight, B.C. will be hosting Santa Monica on Sept. 15 at Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m.
